Happy April, My Eagles Nest Friend!
I pray you are well and experiencing His light and life this beautiful spring day.
When I opened my Bible this morning I was looking at Psalm 37. And, honestly, the first verses I read actually took my breath away and because of that I thought they might mean something to you as they did me.
Psalm 37:
"1) Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
2) For they will wither quickly like the grass
And fade like the green herb.
3) Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
4) Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5) Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6) He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
7) Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
8) Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
9) For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land."
First of all, I just couldn't miss all the times I read 'do not fret' so I decided to look up what it means in these scriptures. Fret is defined as: to be grieved; troubled; displeased. I kind of chuckled to myself because this definition is an accurate representation of what I feel when I hear the news, different podcasts and take a look at the growing political climate. Oh my word, I am fretting over here. Please tell me that I'm not the only one! I then began to focus on what the rest of this scripture is saying. Even when it 'feels' like evil is winning...it is not. Even when it feels like the evildoers are getting away with all they are doing...they are not. Even when we feel like we are being overcome by all this evil...we are not. God is in this, He is with us and He is absolutely fighting for all of His children. What are we to do then? Trust. Right? That's what it says in verse 3, "Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness." By the grace and mercy of Jesus we are to do good. We are to cultivate faithfulness and we can depend on the fact that He will keep His promises. We can absolutely trust Him because He is not a man that He should lie.
We believe that what we focus on, we feed. If we focus on the news and the negative reports we will feed the part of us that will fret our days away. But if we focus on the Lord we can feed a different, deeper part of our spirit. Our precious friend, Rick Sizemore, teaches that we trust the Lord by “attaching” our heart to His nature and character. Learning who He really is and how He really feels about us or how He responds to us can change our fretting to trusting. He will do it! It is His promise right there in verse 5!
As the landscape is coming to life this spring let's focus on His nature and character. Let's get our eyes on Jesus and trust that He can and will accomplish all that concerns you. Let's believe that because He has done this for all the ones He has loved down through the ages He will do it again for you and me. He is a promise keeper and His love never fails. How I pray you see Him so clearly and that you will see the deep love in His eyes.
We are praying for you as we remain so grateful for your friendship,
